How to Play Hearts Card Game Online

Welcome to Hearts Card Game Online โ€” the classic 4-player trick-taking card game where the lowest score wins. Play Hearts online free against three smart AI opponents. No sign-up, just pure hearts card game action.

Objective

The goal of the classic hearts card game is simple: avoid winning tricks that contain hearts (โ™ฅ) or the Queen of Spades (โ™ Q). Each heart costs 1 penalty point. The Queen of Spades costs 13 points. The player with the fewest points when someone reaches 100 wins.

The Deal & Passing Cards

A standard 52-card deck is used. Each player receives 13 cards. Before each hand (except every 4th), you select 3 cards to pass to an opponent โ€” your chance to dump high cards. The passing rotation is: left โ†’ right โ†’ across โ†’ hold, then repeat. Smart passing is the first skill to master when you play hearts.

Trick-Taking Rules

The player holding the 2 of Clubs (2โ™ฃ) leads the first trick and must play it. Play proceeds clockwise. You must follow suit if you can; if not, you may play any card. The highest card of the led suit wins the trick, and that player leads the next. This core trick-taking card game mechanic continues until all cards are played.

Breaking Hearts

You cannot lead with a heart until hearts are "broken" โ€” meaning someone has played a heart on another suit because they couldn't follow suit. The Queen of Spades does not break hearts. In the very first trick, you may not play a heart or the Queen of Spades even if void in the led suit.

Scoring

Shooting the Moon ๐ŸŒ™

If a player takes all 13 hearts AND the Queen of Spades (26 points total), they "shoot the moon." Instead of gaining 26 points, they score 0 and every other player receives 26 points. It's a high-risk, high-reward hearts strategy that can turn the game around.
